Java plum/ Nerale hannu/ Jamun fruit one of healthy wild exotic fruits. These fruits are available only for a short period of time during season (June-July), & can’t keep them for long after harvest too.
These fruits are nutritionally rich and having numerous health benefits. Some of the uses are:
- They bring down blood sugar level. Tree bark & leaves are considered effective in diabetic patients. Recommended to consume in moderation.
- Improves haemoglobin
- Good for skin health
- Believed to be good for gut health
- Improves immunity
When a fruit is healthy, tasty and you have them in
your own backyard, nothing like it! As we are having a good harvest this season
from a tree in our garden, I tried couple of dishes too after eating &
sharing them! Juice / lemonade and tea cake made of these fruits were big hit
at home.
Today I am sharing the recipe of healthy drink/
fresh juice made of nerale hannu. You can make this with or without soda, both
are delicious.

Ingredients:
Ripe
Jamun fruits/ nearle hannu – 10-12
Sugar
– 6 tsp, adjust as you need
Salt
– a pinch
Water
– 3.5 glasses, if not using soda (1 .5 glasses if using soda)
Lemon
Juice – 2 tsp /of half a lemon
Method:
- Wash java plum/ jamun fruits in clean running water.
- Get all the fruit pulp using a knife or with
fingers. Remove and discard (plant themJ) the seeds.
- Now take fruit pulp, sugar, salt, lemon juice and 1 glass of water in mixie jar (Juicer). Blend well to get the puree.
- Run through a sieve/ juice strainer. Add little water if required to extract the juice maximum.
- Pour this juice concentrate into 4 serving glasses. Add ice cubes (optional), plain soda/ water to fill the glass
- Now, the attractive juice is ready to serve. It is recommended to consume immediately for fresh & better taste.
Notes:
- If you like pulpy juice, you need not strain the juice, serve as it is after diluting.
- If serving filtered juice, you can use the pulp/ puree in baking. Don’t waste that goodness.
- Soda is optional.
- Optionally, you can add ginger juice (of ½ inch) and mint leaves (2 tsp).
