Potato Tawa Fry/ Potato shallow fry

Potatoes, a beloved staple in kitchens around the world, are a versatile ingredient that needs no introduction. Whether in curries, fries, or simple stir-fries, they fit into a wide variety of dishes. What makes them even more special is that they are adored by children everywhere, with little to no fuss.

Today, I’m sharing a delicious potato recipe that has quickly become a favorite of my kids. This dish is packed with flavor, featuring a perfect blend of everyday Indian spices. And the best part? Preparation time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: 20-30 minutes

Serves- 2-3

Ingredients:

Potatoes - 4 large 

Cooking oil - 2-3 tbsp

cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp 

Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp

Red chili powder - 1/2 to 1 tsp 

Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp

Cumin powder - 1/4 tsp

Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon 

Salt - to taste (about 1/2 tsp)

Tomato sauce - 2 tsp

Lemon juice - 1 tsp

Fresh coriander leaves for garnish


Method:

  • Wash and peel the potatoes and cut them into round slices or thick wedges. 
  • Take the potato slices or wedges in a wide mixing bowl.
  • Add turmeric powder, salt, red chili powder, coriander powder, Cumin powderand garam masala to the potatoes. Give a quick mix.
  • Add tomato sauce, 1/2 tsp lemon juice and mix everything well using a spatula or with fingers.
  • Heat 1 tbsp oil on a tawa or large frying pan. Keep in medium flame.
  • Add cumin seeds to the hot oil. Let them splutter.
  • Spread the potato slices on tawa/ pan so that the surface area touches the hot tawa while frying.
  • Fry both the sides until the potatoes cook well, turn golden brown & crispy(it will take 5-7 minutes approximately per batch. 
  • Once done remove from the tawa and transfer to a serving plate.
  • Finish all the potato slices in batches adding more oil as required for frying.
  • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and squeeze lemon juice on top if desired.
  • Serve hot with chutney, mayonnaise, or as a side dish.
